How to forward an email as an attachment (Gmail, Outlook…)

When you receive a suspicious email, the best way to have it checked is to forward it as an attachment. A normal forward copies only what you see on screen. Forwarding as an attachment sends the original message, including the hidden technical details (the "headers") that reveal who really sent it and which servers it went through.

Gmail (computer)

1. Open the suspicious email.
2. Click the three dots (⋮) at the top right of the message.
3. Choose Forward as attachment.
4. Type check@fishi.email as the recipient and send.

To send several emails at once, tick them in your inbox, click the three dots above the list, then Forward as attachment.

Outlook (outlook.com, new Outlook, Microsoft 365)

1. Open the email.
2. Click the three dots (…) at the top of the message.
3. Choose Forward, then Forward as attachment.
4. Send it to check@fishi.email.

In the classic Outlook desktop app, the option is under More next to the Forward button, or with the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + F.

Apple Mail (Mac)

1. Select the email in your inbox.
2. In the menu bar, click Message, then Forward as Attachment.
3. Send it to check@fishi.email.

Yahoo Mail

1. Open the email.
2. Click the three dots (…) in the toolbar.
3. Choose Forward as attachment and send it to check@fishi.email.

Thunderbird

1. Select the email.
2. Open the Message menu, then Forward As, then Attachment.
3. Send it to check@fishi.email.

On a phone

The Gmail app and the iPhone Mail app don't offer "forward as attachment". Use a normal Forward and send the email to check@fishi.email: Fishi still checks the links, the attachments and the wording. For the most complete check, forward it later from a computer.

What happens next
