Phishing
An email, text or message that pretends to come from a trusted organization to steal your passwords, card details or money.
Phishing is a scam where criminals pose as a bank, a delivery company, a government office or a colleague to make you click a link, open an attachment, pay, or give a password. The message usually creates urgency (an account about to be closed, an unpaid fine) and leads to a fake website that copies the real one.
The word comes from "fishing": scammers cast a wide net and wait for someone to bite. Variants include smishing (by text message), quishing (with a QR code) and spear phishing (targeted at one person).
